Day 2 Monday -Sha'ar HaGolan OR Ha'on - Almagor - Kfar Hoshen
67 (Sha'ar HaGolan) km distance, 1400 m ascent.
A challenging ascent and a very special spiritual experience as we rode beside the burial places of the 'Tzadikim', near the holy city of Safed.
We began our day encircling of the eastern side of the Kinneret at the foot of the Golan Heights. We crossed the Jordan River via the Arik Bridge and from Almagor we started our challenging climb up to the Upper Galilee.
We left the Jordan Valley and headed towards the Chorazin Height and from here, at Elifelet Junction, we continued our climb on road #89 which is the Safed bypass.
For centuries Safed was considered one of Judaism's Four Holy Cities, along with Jerusalem, Hebron and Tiberias; since that time the city has remained a center of 'Kabbalah' Jewish mysticism.
We continued towards Meron Junction. Mt. Meron, the second highest mountain in Israel (1200m) and one of the wettest areas in Israel (900mm rain a year) will be seen in the south. Mt. Meron is known for the Lag B'Omer pilgrimages by hundreds of thousands who travel there to celebrate the anniversary of the death of Shimon bar Yochai.
We ended the Ride in Kfar Hoshen (Safsufa). Here we left the bikes and tomorrow we will continue from the same place.
The weather is great and the spirit high.

Als ik jullie verslagen lees en de foto's bekijk, komt bij mij toch wel een gevoel van " dit moet ik ook eens meemaken"
